Corporations and 1-percenters have a long history of creative tax strategies. General Electric, for example, tends to claim tax benefits of $3 billion~. So instead of the largest corporations in the United States paying their fair share, they're actually taking money away from the federal government which would otherwise be spent on vital social services.
I began to wonder how artists might interact with taxes in a similar way.
Through performing and recording the act of consumption of the following goods they have been transformed into art materials. Under United States tax laws established by the Internal Revenue Service, artists may claim such materials as "Tax Deductible Expenses." The following art materials were deducted from my 2016 tax return.
